Downing Street apologized to Buckingham Palace on Friday after parties erupted at No 10 the day before the funeral of the Duke of Edinburgh on April 17 last year.

The country was also under strict coronavirus rules when it emerged from the lockdown.

Speaking at Trevor Phillips’ Sunday program this morning, Mr. Phillips recalled that he received a phone call later that week informing him that his daughter had collapsed. She said that she had died the next morning.

Mr Phillips said: ‘You’ll forgive me, I’ve talked about it once on this program and I hope never to do it again, but I think there are thousands, millions of people across the country who Will feel, frankly, rather like I do.

‘Let’s go back to that April 17/18 weekend, and I want to say something about what I did during that week and that other people will have the same story.

‘That week I saw my two daughters outside several times – one was pregnant, one was very ill.

‘His mother, stepmother and I were not allowed to meet him together. We all stuck to the letter of the spirit and the laws.

‘After watching Prince Philip’s funeral on Saturday, I went to a friend’s 70th birthday party. He rented a tent, he has a lot of friends, but he rented a tent for just the six of us so we could sit outside, he stuck to the spirit and the letter of the rules.

‘And over dinner I get a call, my daughter has died, and as you know, she was in isolation for months, she was sick.

‘By the next morning she was dead and she was clinging to the spirit and letter of the rules, and there’s going to be thousands of people who have that story in their background and if I may say so, you’re here to tell me a Regarding the questioning of the civil servant, who would not respond to that anger. Does the Prime Minister really understand why people are angry?’

Mr Dowden replied: ‘Well, first of all Trevor, I know how much you have suffered during this period and I know how many people in this country have suffered, the hardships they have been under, The tenacity with which people have followed the rules and it’s totally wrong if there has been a way, and we’ve seen some examples of those rules not being followed completely in Downing Street.’

Minutes later, in an interview with Shadow Health Secretary Wes Streeting, the broadcaster apologized: ‘I apologize to the audience if I brought something personal to this discussion, so let’s try and stay above that.’

But Mr Streeting added: ‘By the way, Trevor, I don’t think you should apologize for talking about your personal pain because millions of people up and down the country are having the same conversation.’
