Power situation critical, have spoken to Union Coal Minister: Power Minister Nitin Raut

Power Minister Nitin Raut on Tuesday said Maharashtra is facing a dire situation with regard to power generation, and has spoken to Union Coal Minister Pralhad Joshi to supply more coal to the state from the Centre-owned Western Coalfields. .

Addressing the review meeting at Mantralaya, Raut said that Maharashtra State Power Generation Company is not getting enough coal from Western Coalfields. He said that he has spoken to Joshi. Raut also said that WCL is selling coal at a higher rate.

A press note from the Department of Energy said that there is usually a shortage of coal during the rainy season and it is increasing now, while the demand for electricity is also increasing. Therefore, the state has to buy power from private companies at a higher rate.
