WHITCHURCH_STOUFFVILLE, ONT. Police north of Toronto are investigating whether an unidentified substance was released into the air in a crowded tent during a local festival.

York Regional Police say the incident happened on the evening of July 2 at the Strawberry Festival whichchurch-staufvilleOnt.

They say several people called to report that pepper spray, bear repellent or a stink bomb had been released into a tent that held about 700 people.

Police say eyewitnesses believe a group of teenagers may be responsible, but no suspects have been identified at this time.

Investigators are asking anyone contacted with photos or videos of the incident, or information about what happened.

They say it is still unclear what the substance was, but its effects were temporary and no long-term problems have been reported.
