Poland’s Duda: Sending fighter jets to Ukraine a ‘very serious decision’

Poland’s President Andrzej Duda indicated that his country may not be able to deliver Western fighter jets to Ukraine to help deter an invasion by Russia.

“The decision today to donate any kind of jet, any F-16, outside Poland is a very serious decision and it is not an easy one for us to take,” Duda said in a statement to the BBC. Interview on Sunday.

Duda’s comments came after Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky traveled to Europe last week to lobby for additional military aid, including long-range artillery and ammunition, air defense systems, missiles and fighter jets.

Poland is one of Ukraine’s closest allies, and it is fully aware of its own weapons stockpile. Noting that Poland currently has less than 50 jets, Duda said, “If we donate even a small part of them it creates serious problems, because I do not hesitate to say that we have There aren’t enough jets.”

In any case, Duda said that any decision to send fighters “requires a decision by the Allies anyway, which means we have to make a joint decision.”
