Student at Peterborough Elementary school want to let go nurses Know that his work did not go unnoticed during the pandemic.

grade 1 students Show your appreciation for frontline workers by making bracelets and cards from Westmount Public School. The class gave special gifts to Peterborough Regional Health Center on Tuesday afternoon.

Teacher Tina Wheeler-Moorcroft says many students have family members who work at the hospital.

“What we talked about a lot was that they didn’t get a chance to meet their parents or grandparents, because they’re working too hard,” Wheeler-Moorcroft said. “So we all said, ‘Why don’t we make them bracelets?'”

The students started working on the bracelet in February and scored a total of 50 marks.

Josie works as a nurse in the Florence Intensive Care Unit. She described the bracelet as a wonderful, heartfelt surprise.

“It means so much that we are hearing from the next generation,” Florence said. “It feels like everything we’ve done is kind of a culmination and we’re making a difference.”

Wheeler-Moorcroft says that a positive sense of giving back comes with a valuable lesson she hopes her class will remember.

“Appreciate the people who work in our community and appreciate all the nurses and doctors who care for us at all times,” Wheeler-Moorcroft said. “Be kind. Say thank you. Kindness goes a long way.”
