Parents learn the new home they bought specifically for the school district is off limits

WENTZVILLE, Mo. (KMOV.com) — For families with many young children, their top priority when they move to a new location is finding a new home in a good school district.

When Nick Pash, his wife and three children moved from Georgia to the St. Louis area, they wanted to find a home in a good school district. And within a good school district, they wanted their children to go to high-end schools.

We were looking for and were very much liked among the well-rated schools,” Pash said.

“This is a high priority for a lot of people with school-age children,” said Laura Wehns, a real estate agent for the loop with Keller Williams Realty.

Wehnes said he found several homes for the Pash family to choose from but the one he chose was in the Wentzville School District. The Multiple Listing Services (MLS) fact sheet on the house shows that it was in the range of Duelo Elementary School, an upper rated school. Pash said that he wanted to make sure his daughter would be able to attend Duelo Elementary School, so he double-checked some other sources and even called the school and an employee confirmed that his home school. So they finalized the purchase. of their new home.

When he enrolled his daughter at Duelo Elementary School a month later, he said no one reported any problems. But the next day someone from the school called and said that Pash’s new home was actually within the limits of Stone Creek Elementary School. The drive from Pash’s new home to Duelo Elementary is only 3 minutes. He will overtake the school an 8-minute drive to take his daughter to Stone Creek Elementary School. He wants the district to rectify its mistake.

All they have to do is take a higher path and say we are going to make an exception. We made a mistake and your child could go to a school near our house.”

Pash contacted the Wentzville School District administrative offices and was eventually able to speak with the superintendent, Dr. Curtis Cain. He said Cain apologized to a school employee who mistakenly confirmed that the house was in the Duelo precinct. But Pash said the superintendent refused to let his daughter attend the school near their house.

News 4 reached out to the Wentzville School District to ask why he couldn’t make an exception in this case. No one was made available for interview and the district did not issue a statement addressing our question. But a spokesperson pointed to District Boundary Locator Tool And that any questions from parents regarding limits may be directed to the Department of Administrative Services.

“And I said, how is that possible? I called you guys a month before that and you confirmed that my address goes to your school.”
