Pakistan sees slight decline in COVID-19 cases

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Saturday reported a slow decline in COVID-19 cases, with 3,084 new cases being reported during the last 24 hours.

According to the data released by the National Command and Operation Centre, a total of 53,770 tests were conducted across the country in the last 24 hours. Of them, 3,084 came positive.

Meanwhile, 65 more people lost their lives to the disease during the same period.

The positivity rate also fell and is now at 5.73%. The last time Pakistan recorded a positivity rate of less than 6% was on July 24, a month ago at 4.89%.

The number of active or currently ill patients is 89,044.

The NCOC calculated a total of 1,006,078 recoveries. A day earlier, the number of patients recovering from COVID-19 in Pakistan crossed one million.

The number of infections rose to 1,116,886 with 3,239 new cases in the last 24 hours after 51,982 COVID-19 tests were conducted, NCOC data shows.

The number of active or currently ill patients stands at 89,673, the highest since May 2 when 89,661 active cases were reported in the country.

COVID-19 infections are decreasing in Pakistan, with an average of 3,853 new infections being reported every day. This is 66% of the peak – the highest daily average reported on 17 June.

There have been 1,119,970 infections and 24,848 coronavirus-related deaths in the country since the pandemic began.

Pakistan has so far given at least 44,736,977 doses of COVID-19 vaccines. Assuming that each person needs two doses, this is enough to vaccinate about 10.3% of the country’s population.

During the last week reported, Pakistan administered an average of about 716,137 doses per day. At that rate, it would take another 61 days to deliver enough doses for the other 10% of the population.
