Pakistan reports over 3,800 COVID-19 infections in 24 hours

KARACHI: Pakistan reported 3,842 new coronavirus infections in the last 24 hours, as the fourth wave of the pandemic continues in the country.

According to the National Command and Operation Center (NCOC) data, Pakistan recorded more than three thousand eight hundred cases of coronavirus in a single day from 53,527 tests.

The country’s COVID-19 positivity rate now stands at 7.1%.

The latest NCOC data also revealed that after 75 more people died of the disease during the last 24 hours, the death toll from the coronavirus across the country has risen to 24,923.

With the fresh count of 3,842 infections, the number of COVID-19 cases across the country has reached 1,123,812.

Apart from this, 1,009,555 people have recovered from the virus so far, while the number of active cases stands at 89334.

Sindh decides to shut down educational institutions

In view of the rising number of COVID-19 cases in the province, Sindh on Sunday decided to close the school till further notice.

Earlier the provincial government had announced that schools in Sindh would remain closed till August 30.

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah had said in a statement that teachers, staff and parents should be vaccinated before schools reopen.

“It has been decided to reopen universities, colleges and schools after 10 days. They will be opened on August 30.

Sindh Education Minister Sardar Shah had said that schools will reopen with only 50% student attendance, while educational institutions that have a full immunization rate will be allowed 100% student numbers.
