The Guelph Storm had no chance against a bear from Owen Sound.

The visiting attack used a strong second period to defeat Guelph 6-3 on Friday night at the Sleeman Center.

Guelph had plenty of chances to score in the opening period. But it was attack that took a 2-1 lead in the first half with goals from Caleb Lawrence and Dayne Gourd. Michael Buchinger (1 goal, 1 assist) would answer for the Storm on the power play.

Storm forward Mathieu Poitras said, “It was not how we wanted to start (the game).” “If we had kept him it probably would have been a different game.”

Owen Sound expanded their lead in the second period.

Jackson Stewart gave the attack a 3–1 lead with 2:50 left in the period. Then Owen Sound scored three more in a span of 2:13 for a 6–2 lead after two each from Colby Barlow, Sam Sedley and Cedric Guindon.

Sedley’s goal at the 12:08 mark would tie the game to Patrick Lever. Lever was converted into the net by Bryden Gillespie.

“They were working hard (in the second period),” Poitras said. We got carried away with the way we’ve been playing in the last few games.”

Poitras (1 goal, 1 assist) scored Guelph’s second power play goal of the third game to cut Owen Sound’s lead to 6–3.

“I think it shows that when we play our game, it gets a lot better,” said Storm captain Cooper Walker. “We made a lot of mistakes in the first two periods and it showed.”

Corbin Voltari stopped 16 shots for the winning attack (24-15-4-1), Laver (16) and Gillespie (10) combined to make 26 saves for the Storm (19-20-4-1).

The Storm’s next game is this Sunday afternoon when they welcome the Sudbury Wolves to the Sleeman Center at 2:00 PM
