Over 2 crore teens get first dose

A health ministry statement said more than two crore children aged 15 to 18 years have received the first dose of the COVID vaccine since January 3, when the vaccination campaign was launched for this age group.

In a tweet, Union Health Minister Dr Mansukh Mandaviya “praised” and congratulated the enthusiasm for vaccination among adolescents.

India reported 1,41,986 new Covid cases on Saturday and the active caseload reached 4,72,169, the statement said.

PM Modi had said the decision to vaccinate teenagers would “further strengthen our fight against the pandemic” and ease tensions among parents who were worried about children returning to school.
