Ottawa expands and expands work permit program hong kong Residents seeking jobs in Canada have been warned by advocates that thousands could be left out with its end.

Minister of Immigration Sean Fraser announced on Monday that the federal government is extending the application deadline for temporary three-year open work permits to February 7, 2025. It was supposed to end on Tuesday.

Fraser also said Ottawa was expanding eligibility to Hong Kong residents who have graduated from a post-secondary educational institution in Canada or abroad within the past 10 years. Previously, applicants must have graduated within the last five years.

The announcement comes after Global News reported last month that advocates urged the federal government to expand the program and address challenges posed by criteria for applicants to graduate within five years.
