Norfolk OPP A safety reminder is issued before the annual boating party.
On the second Sunday of every July, thousands usually visit Pottahawk Island annually.pottahawk tired. ,
OPP says that over the busy Pottahawk weekend, 2,000 ships and 10,000 people will participate.
In a statement, police said emergency teams respond to multiple injuries each year involving impaired sailors.
He says officers in uniform and plain clothes will be in the marina to ensure public safety in and out of the water.
The police will also conduct surprise checks of the ships throughout the day.
In addition, the OPP says that officials will patrol nearby highways and secondary roadways.
OPP has the following safety tips for those planning to participate in the 2022 Pottahawk Pissup:
- Always wear a life jacket while boating.
- Do not operate the boat under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
- Conduct a pre-departure checklist for all required safety equipment.
- Check the weather forecast before leaving the dock.
- Tell someone about your destination and when you plan to return.
- Avoid taking hitchhikers.
- Have some sort of communication equipment (VHF radio, cellphone with charger).
