A man is facing multiple charges after the OPP arrested an allegedly impaired driver with open alcohol in the vehicle during a Ride for a Ride event in Gray Bruce last weekend.

On Friday at 5:23 p.m., a motorist entered a RIDE program on Gray Road 17 in the township of Georgian Bluffs. Officers said they discovered signs of impairment because they “observed the driver to have open liquor readily available within the vehicle.”

“Sometimes we are asked ‘Why do you organize daytime ride events?’ — that’s why,” OPP wrote on Twitter.

According to police, a 61-year-old man faces the following charges:

  • operation is impaired
  • impaired operation (over 80)
  • Operation while prohibited (four counts)
  • driving while suspended (four counts)
  • possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000
  • Using a plate not authorized for a vehicle
  • operating a motor vehicle with readily available alcohol
  • driving a motor vehicle without insurance

The accused has been released and will be produced in court later.
