“(Ontario) is ready to distribute vaccines throughout the province so that we can begin dosing as soon as possible with the support of our local partners,” a spokesperson for Health Minister Sylvia Jones said in a statement.

While the province did not specify how many doses it expected to receive, the federal government distributed vaccines based on population share—typically between 38 and 40 percent of vials purchased by Canada are given to Ontario. .

The government indicated that additional information about when and how parents can book the vaccine would be disclosed next week before the initial shipments arrive.

However, it is not clear how many parents plan to vaccinate their children against the virus.

Currently 57 per cent of children aged five to 11 years have received their primary dose of vaccine, while only 37 per cent of children in the age group have received their second dose.
