He said that in the last 15 years, MCD has spent crores of rupees on waste management and yet the city is in such a bad condition that the height of these massive landfills has not reduced even an inch. “These landfills are directly affecting the quality of life of the people of the city. There are reports of fires in these landfills every two weeks. Just recently there was a massive fire which continued for several days,” the MLA said.

MCD retorted saying that it is fully committed to provide excellent civic amenities in its jurisdiction. “MCD manages three landfill sites in the city which are located at Bhalswa, Okhla and Ghazipur. There are 44 trommel machines working in Bhalswa to dispose of the old garbage mound which processes 9,000 to 10,000 tonnes of waste daily and so far they have processed 2.5 million tonnes of old waste and completed a mound of 11 meters. Well leveled. Another 12-metre mound will be leveled shortly,” the civic body said in a press statement.

Similarly, 26 trommel machines at the Okhla landfill site process 7,000 tonnes of waste every day and have so far processed 17 lakh tonnes of old waste, it said, adding that the MCD has helped reduce the height of the mound from 15 to 30 metres. achieved success. some places.

Ten trommel machines are working at the Ghazipur landfill site, which process 4,000 tonnes of waste daily and so far, the MCD has processed 11 lakh tonnes of old waste and has been able to reduce the mound from 12 to 18 meters at some places. Has succeeded, MCD explained.

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi is fully committed to level these dunes at three landfill sites and is taking all necessary measures to achieve this target in the next two to three years.
