One officer killed in a shooting at a hotel in Illinois, while another is in serious condition, in custody

Wednesday’s shooting took place at a hotel in Bradley, Illinois, after police investigated a noise complaint. Sergeant 49-year-old Marlene R. Ritmann died of wounds on Thursday, and Officer Tyler J., 27, died. Bailey was taken to hospital and is in critical condition.

Darius D. Sullivan was taken into custody Friday morning in north Manchester, Indiana, after a US marshal and a SWAT team executed a search warrant at the home of an Indiana State Police Sgt. Glenn Fifield said at a news conference.

“I can confirm that Sullivan is a suspect in the murder of Sergeant Ritmanick and the attempted murder of Officer Bailey,” Fifield said.

He said Sullivan of Bourbonne, Illinois, and another person were arrested without incident and are in the custody of North Manchester Police.

According to Fifield, several weapons and drugs were recovered from the house.

The other suspect, Xandrea A. Harris, turned herself in at Bradley Police Headquarters with her lawyer on Friday afternoon.

Illinois State PoliceThe lead agency in the case said it had taken Bradley’s 26-year-old woman into custody.

The agency said it is working to bring Sullivan back to Illinois.

How did the shooting unfold?

The fatal shooting occurred Wednesday at a Comfort Inn in Bradley, officials said, after police responded to calls from barking dogs in a parking lot.

“Officers responded to the Comfort Inn following reports of dogs barking in an unclaimed vehicle,” Bradley Police said in a news release.

The officers went to the room where the potential owner of the vehicle was staying, and the officers were attacked while the officers were talking to people in the room, the release said.

Bradley is about 60 miles south of Chicago and about 125 miles west of North Manchester.
