In 2021, the Okanagan Humane Society helped over 1,400 animals, and the organization says they are on track to break that record in 2022.
In a news release, the charity said they foresee a huge increase in the need for animals in the Okanagan Valley in 2022. They also said that they are answering all calls for support from the community.
“Busiest in terms of rescuing the highest number of animals, spaying and neutering the highest number of pets, cats, dogs and our adoptions went up like wildfire. So, 2022, the adoption process will ceiling Was through,” said Romani Runnalls, volunteer chairperson for OHS.

Runnalls tells Global News that the rescue program saw a 42 percent increase in adoptions and a 31 percent increase in adoptions.
He said the model is working and has been implemented across their network, which extends from Osoyoos to ShoeSwap. Now, as we head into 2023, Runnalls said he’s preparing for a busy new year.
“We’re trying to encourage people to get ready to have their animals spayed and neutered. We really want to make 2023 the biggest and best year ever so that we can continue to support our community,” Runnalls said. I can cure as many animals as I can.
Marnie Adams, Fund Development Advisor for OHS, said that without the dedication and hard work of their volunteers and community charities, they would not be able to do what they do.
The charity also believes that 2023 will be an extremely busy year for them.
“With the exception of the BC Community Gaming Grant, we do not receive government funding and rely on community support,” Adams said.
