New Zealand Cricket New Zealand A squad announced on Thursday, comprising seven players with international experience, for the tour India For red and white ball fixtures in September.

Along with players with full international experience, five players on the team get to represent New Zealand A for the first time: Chad Bowes, Matt Fischer, Ben Lister, Robbie O’Donnell and Joe Walker.

NZC said in a release that Wellington pacer Logan van Beek returned to the NZ A program after playing with the Netherlands, with ICC eligibility rules allowing him to play for both sides simultaneously.

Tom Bruce (Central Districts) and Robbie O’Donnell (Auckland) have been named co-captains for the tour, which departs on 26 August.

New Zealand A last toured India in 2017 and the tour will feature three four-day matches and three one-day matches in Bangalore and Chennai respectively.

Tom Bruce and Robbie O’Donnell were named captains for the white and red ball portions of the series.

Black Caps selector Gavin Larsen, who will be out of the squad as part of the support staff, said the tour represents a huge growth opportunity for the sport and the coaching group.

“It is even more exciting to have the A fixtures back on the touring calendar and see the team play in overseas conditions,” Larsen was quoted as saying in the release.

“This program and visits like this are important to develop our people and give them the opportunity to test themselves against quality protests.

“We have an exciting mix in this group, which includes emerging talent in Matt Fischer and Joe Walker, as well as players like Robbie O’Donnell and Tom Bruce who dominated our last home season.”

Larsson has experienced success with the Black Caps during the recent series in Europe to well-known players such as Mark Chapman, Jacob Duffy and Dane Cleaver and said that their experience would be invaluable within this group.

Central Stags Head Coach Rob Walter will lead the coaching group supported by Canterbury Assistant Coach Brendan Donkers and NZC High-Performance Coach Paul Wiseman.
