The discovery of a potentially explosive substance at a hotel in New York City There was a heavy police response on Tuesday evening and now police are searching for a man known to law enforcement.
At a press conference on Tuesday night, NYPD Assistant Chief James McCarthy said officers responded to the Hyatt Hotel at 58th Street and Seventh Avenue after a female hotel employee fell ill after cleaning a room on the 11th floor around 1:20 p.m.
She reportedly noticed a white, powdery substance in the bathroom, cleaned it up, and later felt nauseous and dizzy, eventually sending her to the hospital.
McCarthy said firefighters arrived at the scene and began cleaning the room. Initial tests came back positive for explosives, but McCarthy said it may have been caused by a cleaning supply being mixed with power.
