Number of suspects registered in Jokhio murder case increased to 21

KARACHI: Police have booked Pakistan Peoples Party MNA Jam Abdul Karim Bizar in high-profile Nazimuddin Jokhio, after the victim’s family had named him in their statement.

So far, a total of 21 suspects, including five unidentified people, have been named in the murder case and only six of them, including PPP MPA Jam Avais Bizar, have been arrested.

An eight-member police team led by SSP-Malir Irfan Bahadur is probing the matter, interrogating the arrested suspects and recording the statements of all concerned.

SSP Bahadur confirmed that the MLA was named in the FIR in the light of the statement of the victim’s family.

He said that initially an FIR was registered against five suspects including MPA Jam Avais. Of these, three had already been arrested, while efforts were on to nab the two named suspects.

He said three more suspects were taken into custody for their alleged involvement in threatening Nazim Jokhio after he made a video of a foreign hunter that went viral on social media.

A judicial magistrate on Wednesday sent three officials of the Sindh Wildlife Department to police custody till November 16 in connection with the Zokhio murder case.

The Investigating Officer produced the suspects Abdul Razzaq, Jamal and Meraj in the court of Judicial Magistrate (Malir) and sought their custody for questioning.

The magistrate handed them over to the police on six-day remand and directed them to produce them again along with the progress report on the next hearing.

Earlier on Monday, complainant Afzal Jokhio’s lawyer told a court that the matter was not being investigated properly as the police had not inspected the spot and the mobile phone of the deceased was also not recovered.

He had submitted that section 109 (abetment) of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) and relevant sections of the Anti-Terrorism Act, 1997 could be included in the case as it was an act of terrorism.

Kidnapping allegation added in FIR

SSP Bahadur said that the police also covered the kidnapping charge under section 365 of the PPC as the family alleged that Jokhio was abducted from his house in the village near Ghaghar gate and taken to Jam House in Malir, where he was allegedly arrested. He was tortured and put to death. ,

The head of the investigation team said that the police raided the houses of the suspects and recovered the digital video recorder (DVR) of Jam House.

He said the DVR was sent to a lab in Lahore for forensic analysis.

In addition, the cell phone of the victim’s lawyer was also sent to Lahore as the family claimed that Jokhio had sent an audio message to his lawyer before he was killed.
