Now, Center extends tenure of Secretaries of Defense and Home, IB and RAW chiefs

A day after extending the tenure of the directors of the Central Bureau of Investigation and the Enforcement Directorate, the central government extended the tenure of the Defense Secretary, Union Home Secretary, Director of Intelligence Bureau, Secretary of Research and Analysis Wing (RAW).

The notification said that the central government may, for reasons to be recorded in writing, extend the service of these officers for such period as it deems fit on a “case-by-case basis”.

The extension is subject to the condition that the total extension shall be for two years.

All these officers currently serve for 62 years and enjoy a fixed tenure of two years.

The central government notification issued on Monday also mentioned the extension in tenure of CBI and ED directors which were reported in the press.
