No security till production: Supreme Court to former Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh

New Delhi, November 18

A day after a Mumbai court declared former Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh an absconder, the Supreme Court today asked him to disclose his whereabouts, saying “there will be no security, no trial”. Until we know where you are”. Hearing Singh’s appeal against the September 16 order of the Bombay High Court, his plea against two preliminary investigations was dismissed. Initiated against him by the Maharashtra government, a bench headed by Justice SK Kaul asked his lawyer to inform him about his whereabouts and posted the matter for November 22.

The bench, which also included Justice MM Sundaresh, took strong objection to his plea seeking protection through power of attorney.

“Suppose, you are sitting abroad and taking legal recourse through power of attorney, what happens. If so, you will come to India if the court decides in your favour, we don’t know what you have in mind…” the apex court bench said. – tns
