Nikki Haley joins presidential race as Trump’s first challenger for Republican nomination

nikki haleyThe former South Carolina governor and ambassador to the United Nations announced Tuesday she is entering the 2024 presidential race, making her the first Republican to challenge her former boss and former president. Donald Trump for the Republican nomination.

Haley, 51, explores age gap with 80-year-old president Joe Biden and his rival Trump, who is 76. While Biden has not formally announced his candidacy, he is expected to do so in the coming weeks.

“Republicans have lost the popular vote in seven of the last eight presidential elections. That has to change,” Haley said in a video posted to her Twitter account. He called for a new generation of leaders, saying Biden’s record was “disappointing” and that “the Washington establishment has failed us time and time again.”

Announcing her run a day before a formal campaign launch in Charleston, SC, Haley called for fiscal responsibility and secure borders.
