Next sero survey in Delhi soon: Satyendar Jain

Health Minister Satyendar Jain said on Tuesday that the next phase of sero survey will be held in Delhi soon.

The last sero survey was done in January, in which 56.13 percent of the people tested were found to have Kovid antibodies.

He also said that because of the cases delta version of novel coronavirus Not to be a cause for concern as India had already “faced the wrath” of this edition during the second wave in April and May.

“In the tests conducted during the second wave, we observed that more than 80% of the samples showed the presence of the delta variant. Genome sequencing of samples during the second wave and after the second wave has also been carried out. The results of both suggest that approximately 80% of the sample population was infected with the delta variant of the virus. Since the delta variant originated in India, we have already faced the wrath of this variant during the second wave… So, I don’t think the delta variant should be a cause for concern for us now because of the whole second wave. It was the delta version,” said Jain.

Jain said that the government has made preparations to operationalize 12,000 ICU beds if there is a third wave of Covid cases in the city. “In the last wave, the Delhi government had prepared 22,000-23,000 beds, of which 6,000 were ICU beds. This time we have doubled the number of ICU beds and added more beds (37,000) overall. Along with this, Delhi Government has started Graded Response System.

Under the graded response system, closure of markets or gyms is done based on the positivity rate, number of cases and availability of hospital beds.
