New England state soldier rescues man with Alzheimer’s from a ditch

Maine State Police are praising the actions of a soldier who managed to find and save an Alzheimer’s patient who wandered from his home in Wasselboro. State Trooper Tyler Harrington answered a call about the disappearance of 82-year-old Bernard Perry at around 5 a.m. Shortly after their search begins, a Town Hull truck driver informs Trooper that he has seen a man walking in freezing rain and snowy conditions. Trooper Harrington found the man in a ditch on Mudgate Hill Road, with Perry unable to walk. Harrington took Perry back to his police cruiser, wrapping him in his jacket to warm him while he waited for the ambulance. Perry was suffering from severe hypothermia and frostbite. He was taken to Main General Hospital in Augusta where he is recovering. Maine State Police released a video and description of the incident in a Facebook post.
