New Delhi Municipal Council to modernize parks to promote physical activities

In order to provide green space and promote physical activities and yoga among the masses, the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has proposed to redevelop and modernize 27 small residential parks at Laxmi Bai Nagar and 30 parks at Gole Bazar.

NDMC officials said the redevelopment, beautification and modernization work of the parks would be completed by March 2023. The main objective of this project is to make these parks accessible to the public and support them mentally and physically COVID-19 pandemic, he said.

“The COVID pandemic has changed human behavior across the globe and to help people stay healthy and maintain their mental and physical health during the pandemic, NDMC has provided these parks with plantation, greenery, flowers, street furniture, It has been decided to redevelop the open gym with cycles. NDMC vice-chairman Satish Upadhyay said that the track and place to do yoga, so that people can engage in outdoor activities while maintaining physical distance.

Parks and green spaces improve the quality of life of urban residents in many ways. He said they promote active lifestyles that reduce the risk of heart disease and other chronic health conditions.

“I will personally seek suggestions and feedback from morning walkers, nature-lovers and stakeholders for the betterment of these premier parks. NDMC is working tirelessly to make the region a global benchmark for a capital city.

In addition, the NDMC is planning to redevelop all its major gardens – Nehru Park, Lodhi Garden, Talkatora Garden and Sanjay Lake – as ‘world-class’.
