Nevada and Oregon enjoy white Christmas – but it’s a balmy 80f in West Texas and the Mississippi Valley

The weather is certainly frightening as the National Weather Service has warned it will be ‘wet, chilly, windy and a white Christmas’ for the West as record-breaking high temperatures hit the South.

Washington, Nevada, Oregon, And Arizona The states are having a picture-perfect white Christmas as a heavy snowpack, leading to more dangerous road conditions.

The Cascades can experience up to two to three feet of snow, including portland, Oregon is expected to get six inches.

Oregon Governor Kate Brown declared a state of emergency until January 3 because ‘winter storms increase risk for travel.’

‘Winter storms mean increased risks for those traveling as well as those living at home. Please make a plan with your family now and be ready,’ she posted on Twitter on Thursday.

Shelters have also been opened to help homeless people escape the harsh conditions in the state.

Sierra, Nevada has issued an evacuation warning for 150 homes near the Twain Hurt Lake Dam after cracks were found in a concrete structure.

Mountains can also reach up to 10 feet of snow, which is equivalent to two storeys of a building, while cities can see five to eight feet of snow.

The weather services in Reno, Nevada, said traveling in the Sierras over the holiday weekend would be at times difficult to impossible.

“Travel will be dangerous, even impassable at times, in the harshest of places with snow drifts and whitewashed conditions,” NOAA said Friday.

Those at lower altitudes can expect rain.

Rare snow is falling in northern California, forcing Interstate 80 east toward Donner Summit to be closed for hours on Friday as cars crossed icy roads, causing a spinout.

The California Department of Transportation, or CalTrans, announced that I-80 was reopened Friday around 8 p.m., but required all vehicles to travel with chains on their tires, as long as the car was in snow. Do not have four-wheel drive with tyres.

Meanwhile, Southern California is facing deadly flooding that has already killed two people.

San Mateo County Sheriff’s Detective Javier Acosta said rescuers could not reach them after two people died in a submerged car under an underpass near San Francisco on Thursday as flooding was dangerous.

Unlike the heavy snowfall in Nevada and the treacherous flooding of California, most Americans will experience a green Christmas.
