Nawaz Sharif, Ashraf Ghani leading same kind of life today: Fawad

Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry said on Saturday that PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif and former Afghanistan President Ashraf Ghani are leading a similar life today.

Speaking to the media in Jhelum, Chowdhury said: “Today Nawaz Sharif and Ashraf Ghani are leading the same kind of life because when you are not attached to the soil you lead the life as they are – A London and the other in Dubai.

“Both have gone abroad with bags full of dollars so it’s bad luck [and] Lesson for those who are in politics but not connected to their land. The situation of such people is before us today.”

The Information Minister criticized the PML-N supremo, saying his response to the arrest of Indian spy Kulbhushan Jadhav was inadequate.

“You can imagine how many shameless rulers have been in Pakistan who didn’t have the ability to look beyond their feet except to collect money and invite Narendra Modi to weddings – other than that they didn’t do any constructive work.”

In contrast, he said, Prime Minister Imran Khan represented the nation’s sentiments on a range of issues from Afghanistan to the Kashmir dispute to environmental concerns and corruption in poor countries.

The information minister said the only political party with a presence in all regions and regions was the PTI, which predicted that it would form the next government with a two-thirds majority.

Responding to a question on disputes with other institutions, he acknowledged that “sometimes differences do emerge” but added that the issues with the Election Commission of Pakistan were moving towards reform.

‘The success of public diplomacy’

Chaudhry said that as the Afghan issue developed and Pakistan’s global reputation grew, “the international leadership is looking to Imran Khan and Pakistan for all regional decisions which is a proud moment for us.”

Addressing those who were “jealous” of this success and that Pakistan’s government and institutions were on the same page, he said: “You will spend the next five to seven years crying like this.”

With regard to the recently canceled tour by the cricket boards of England and New Zealand, he praised the government’s response in light of the two incidents. “Earlier governments only approached leaders […] But Imran Khan speaks to the public at the international level as well,” Chowdhury said.

“There have been reports about the Prime Minister of Britain expressing his anger too, so I think it’s a success of public diplomacy that we brought all these things to the people.

“People are fair whether they are from UK or US or us. It is establishments who play their game so we talk to people,” Chowdhury said.
