On Saturday, the Department of National Defense said a naval security team carrying out tactical and navigation training on three boats was returning to its home base on Vancouver Island.

according to Royal Canadian Navy (RCN), based out of team Eskimoand specially deployed naval assets are trained to provide additional land and maritime security.

“About 20 RCN coxswains, crew members and support personnel were involved in the exercise,” the Department of National Defense said.

With the training finished, the RCN said the public could see an increased military presence on local highways, as the convoy of boats and auxiliary vehicles travels back to Victoria.

“The movements of major vehicles associated with the exercise are carefully planned and closely controlled to ensure public safety at all times,” the Department of National Defense said.
