National Assembly passes amended anti-harassment bill

ISLAMABAD: The Human Rights Ministry on Friday said the Protection against Harassment of Women at Workplace Amendment Bill 2022, as amended by the Senate, has been passed by the National Assembly.

In a statement, it said the bill was drafted by the Ministry of Human Rights to increase women’s participation in the workforce and to address deficiencies in the protection against harassment law in Pakistan.

The bill expanded the scope and scope of the law to include certain occupations and employment models that the current law did not explicitly mention, and provided protection from harassment to those engaged in all forms of work – formal and informal. .

The amendment bill will also provide clarity regarding different types of harassment at workplace.

The Bill aims to amend the definitions provided in the Act, specifically to amend the definitions of “complainant”, “employee”, “employer”, “harassment” and “workplace”, to remove ambiguities that To include all forms and categories of work faced by litigants and to increase the scope of the workplace.

The Bill also aims to set a time limit for appeals against the orders of the Lokpal under the Act.
