Musewala murder case: Five prisoners booked for assaulting Amritsar man inside Ludhiana jail

Sharma said that all the suspects would be brought from the jail on production warrant for further investigation.

According to the FIR, two jail wardens were on duty when the accused attacked Satbir near the cell block.

As per the details, Suraj is serving a 12-year jail term in one NDPS Act case and has seven other cases pending against him. Akhilesh Kumar has been booked for attempt to murder, Gurdev is serving a 15-year jail term in an NDPS case, Punjab Singh has also been booked for drug smuggling, while Amanpreet has been booked for snatching has gone.

Ludhiana Central Jail’s superintendent Shivraj Singh said that Moosewala’s murder was an emotional issue for many, including those lodged inside the jail, and it could have been a trigger for Sunday night’s attack. “The prisoners against whom the case has been registered do not belong to any particular gang,” he said.

Satbir, who is an associate of Sandeep Singh Kahlon, nephew of Akali leader Nirmal Singh Kahlon was arrested on June 30 for supplying weapons that police claim were used in Musewala’s murder. The police also claim that Satbir “used his vehicle to supply a set of weapons for the murder of Musewala.”

Police said that Satbir along with three of his accomplices had gone to a petrol pump on Dabwali Road in Bathinda, where some weapons were handed over to the ‘shooters’ to kill Musewala. Police said a white colored Toyota Fortuner vehicle, which was used for supplying arms, a 315 bore pistol and two live cartridges were recovered and an FIR was registered against him at the Salem Tabri police station.

Ludhiana Central Jail Additional Superintendent Satnam Singh said Satbir, a resident of Talwandi Rai Dadu village in Ajnala, Amritsar, was brought to Ludhiana jail on July 8 after a court sent him to judicial custody.
