Mumbai: Youth jailed for 7 years for carrying counterfeit notes

A 23-year-old man was sentenced to seven years in prison after being convicted of possessing counterfeit currency before a special court on Saturday. Rohit Singh submitted before the court that he is the only earning member of his family and that he had suffered a lot since his arrest in 2018, due to which he wanted to plead guilty to the crime. Earlier also two other people had accepted their guilt in this case.


Singh was booked in 2018 along with eight others on charges of criminal conspiracy and counterfeit currency. With the trial just to begin, his lawyers submitted that he should be lenient with him given his young age and prospects for improvement, which was opposed by the National Investigation Agency’s lawyer.
