Mumbai : Proposal to hold public consultation for naming of public places

The BMC is moving towards holding public consultations on the naming and naming of roads, roads, junctions, open spaces and flyovers in its jurisdiction, with corporators pressuring them on the grounds that they should be informed about the choice of names by the local people. of the questions faced and their relevance to that field.

A motion in this regard, moved by Shiv Sena Corporators Arundhati Dudhwadkar and Vishakha Raut are to be presented for approval in the general body meeting.

“As per the policy of BMC, while naming or naming, the administration should see whether the name chosen by the local people was demanded or not. But it has not been followed. After the names are approved and the boards are put up, often the local people complain to us and question the relevance of the names in the area. Vishakha Raut, leader of the house and Shiv Sena corporator, said, “A notice should be put up in the area seeking suggestions and objections with regard to nomenclature or change of name.”

“Citizens should be given 15 days to present their views. All suggestions should be considered before naming roads etc.

According to the proposal, as per the policy adopted on April 13, 2010, public places should be named or named after a person who has historical importance or who has contributed to the development of Mumbai or Maharashtra or the country. This includes freedom fighters, political leaders, social workers, sportspersons etc.
