Mumbai: PIL in High Court seeks booster vaccine policy for all without delay

Two city-based lawyers recently filed a public interest litigation in the Bombay High Court seeking the central government, the state government and the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to formulate and expeditiously implement a vaccine-booster policy and arrange for booster doses Was. no delay. The petition also sought the authorities to disclose the “vaccine-booster mechanism” to citizens at large.

“The need of the hour is to introduce booster doses of vaccines at the earliest, for which there is no policy by the Centre, State or BMC. Experts involved in this field should roll out a policy covering every segment of people due to booster doses and due to delays, unlike citizens receiving vaccine boosters internationally, there is a high probability of not getting a booster. There will be high risk for the drug,” said the petition filed on December 27 by city-based lawyers Dhriti Kapadia and Kunal Tiwari.

“It has been observed that after three months of receiving two doses of vaccines, the effectiveness of the vaccines decreases, thereby increasing the chances of infection in a person against the new variant,” the petition said.

Last July, hearing another PIL by two petitioners, led by Chief Justice Dipankar Dutta, seeking a direction to provide door-to-door vaccination to people above 75 years of age, disabled persons and handicapped The division bench had directed the officers to ensure the eligibility. Individuals get the benefit of COVID vaccination at their residence as per the policy framed by the state government, despite the Center not being willing to adopt a policy for the same.
