Environment Canada says most parts of southern and eastern Ontario could feel between -30C and -40C on Friday morning, warning frostbite can develop quickly on exposed skin.
While those chill values are expected to subside slightly this afternoon, the weather agency says they could return in some areas tonight and into Saturday morning.
Environment Canada is forecasting wind chills near -30 C in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton area, while it could feel closer to -40 C in Ottawa.
It will feel like -45°C in Thunder Bay and wind chill is expected to be around -50°C in areas around Hudson Bay.
The extreme cold has prompted Environment Canada to issue similar warnings in Quebec and Manitoba through the Maritimes.
