for the past two decades Côte Saint-Luc Emergency Medical Services (EMS) The building was like a second home to Clifford Jordan.

A volunteer paramedic and a public safety officer in Montreal West, she has helped countless individuals and families in the community.

And so when his colleagues and friends heard he collapsed in Barbados on January 13, they were shocked and heartbroken.

“We know they had symptoms similar to those of flesh-eating disease, but we don’t know for sure what the problem is – there’s still no specific diagnosis,” said Eddy Afram, head of EMS for Côte Saint-Luc.

“He’s on life support, he’s on a ventilator, incubated in the intensive care unit and he had to have a leg amputated.”

The park, named Côte Saint-Luc, is named after the late teenager, Joshua Ezekiel Alexander.

Feeling helpless being so far away and not knowing whether the 49-year-old had medical insurance, Afram launched a GoFundMe campaign.

As of Tuesday afternoon, a little over $36,000 had been donated, with funds still pouring in.

Ephraim says the money can be used for anything he and his family need, whether it’s medical bills or adopting Jordan’s home when he returns.

He said, “There is a saying in our area that we should take care of ourselves, so it was a normal thing to do.” “It wasn’t something we discussed, analyzed and studied, it was just a spontaneous reaction.”

Côte Saint-Luc mayor Michel Brownstein says Jordan is a “hero” in the community.

Brownstein said, “We are very fortunate that we have emergency medical services and volunteers do this, and someone like Clifford, who has dedicated 20 years to the service, is amazing.”

“Now it’s our turn to give something back to him.”

Jordan’s wife and son are with him in Barbados and have been in contact with Afram and the team, giving them updates.

They say there is still no word on whether Jordan will be repatriated, but they say they will be waiting for him when he arrives.
