Marcos Renan Fagunes de Macedo, 32, was joined by his wife, sons and friends to drop off toys in a low-income neighborhood in the Sao Paulo coastal city of Bertioga when the blue bug suddenly stopped moving.

The tour guide was fitting as Santa Claus and brought a smile to the children in the Vicente de Carvalho II neighborhood before Christmas Day as he and his helpers gave around 250 gifts when the rain fell.

Fagunes de Macedo decided to go to a community in the neighborhood of Indaiá to vacation with poor children, but the vintage vehicle broke down on a highway.

His wife, Layla Patricio, was able to get gas from a nearby gas station, but the vehicle refused to start.

That’s when Fagunes de Macedo learned that he had kept the headlights on, thus draining the 1969 Beetle’s battery.

He and three of his friends pushed him down a shoulder lane, getting wet from a rain shower before they were able to drive the car.

Toys for children in Indaiá were postponed and rescheduled for Friday, the day before Christmas.

Fagunes de Macedo decided to start a toy drive for the holiday after reaching out to his friends on a WhatsApp chat group and buying his late father’s favorite 1969 Beetle earlier this year.

‘I lived in Chile on business for several years, but every year at the end of the year I return to Brazil to see my family and take the opportunity to spend a few days in Bertioga,’ he told a Brazilian outlet. uol,

‘I knew there were needy communities in the city and one day I thought of doing something for them. Thus came Christmas (activity) with the children.’
