The AOC and other members of the squad were later seen celebrating on the steps of the Capitol on Tuesday after the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention extended the eviction moratorium to 60 days.

CDC Director Rochelle Valensky signed an order The agency announced that ‘eviction of tenants for failure to make rent or housing payments could be detrimental to public health control measures’ to slow the spread of COVID.

The order extends the eviction moratorium until October 3 and applies to counties that experience ‘substantial and high levels’ of COVID transmission.

Describing it as an “effective public health measure,” the CDC said the order would give more time “to further increase vaccination rates.”

Valensky said, ‘This suspension is the right thing to do to keep people in their homes and out of the collective settings where COVID-19 spreads. ‘It would be very difficult to reverse such mass removals and the attendant public health consequences.’

White House officials said it would cover about 90 percent of the nation’s renters.
