Mild tremors were felt in parts of Sulia taluk of Karnataka’s Dakshina Kannada district on Saturday.

An earthquake measuring 1.8 on the Richter scale was recorded in the areas bordering Dakshina Kannada and Kodagu districts, a statement from the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Center said.

The tremors were recorded at 1.23 pm, with its epicenter 1.3 km west of Doddakumari in Sulia taluk.

The tremors of low intensity were felt within a maximum radius of 20-30 km from the epicenter.

Such tremors will not cause any harm to the local people, although minor tremors may occur in some areas, the statement said.

Tremors were felt at places like Sampaje, Gunadka, Thodikana, Paraje, Pathukunja and Kundadu in the taluk. The local people need not panic as the intensity observed is very less.

Sulia taluk is also feeling the tremors for the fourth day on Saturday since June 25. Tremors of varying intensity were felt several times earlier on June 25, June 28 and July 1.
