Mike McCarthy says Cowboys trust Brett Maher, admits kicker ‘needs to practice well’

McCarthy also noted that the team continues to pursue ways to add depth to its roster.

McCarthy doubled down on his stance on Thursday. “It doesn’t erode the trust we have with Brett,” McCarthy said, according to the Dallas Morning News.

Maher and Vizcaino were both scheduled to kick off Thursday’s practice as the team evaluates options going into the weekend.

“I think the fact that we’ll have a chance to see Tristan, I’m looking forward to seeing him in action today. I think he’s a talented young kicker,” McCarthy said.

Vizcaino has spent time with the Patriots and Cardinals this season. He made all five field goals he made during the 2022 season.

This will be his second stint with the Cowboys. He previously signed with Dallas in 2020.
