Hobart: South African batsman Mignon du Preez on Thursday re-signed with the Hobart Hurricanes ahead of the eighth season of the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL), earning her second consecutive dismissal in the purple jersey in the upcoming season.
Last season, she finished as the top run-scorer for the Hurricanes with a total of 414 runs at a strike rate of 115, with the highest score of 87 not out in just 61 balls against Sydney Thunder.
Mignon will be joined by fellow South African, former international opener Lizelle Lee, and newly announced captain, Australia’s Alice Villani. Ironically, she played with both during her time at the Melbourne Stars.
“I can’t wait to return to Australia. I love the Big Bash. Going to the Hurricanes last season was a big decision for me, but I can honestly say that I had such a great time on and off the field. I am very happy.” I know the girls really well, and as we get to know each other better as a team, our cricket has really improved as well.”
“We have the same team that went into WBBL|08 last year, plus some really great additions, and know firsthand what a player of the quality of Junior (Elyse Villani) and Lizelle (Lee) can bring to one. T20 team, I think it puts us in a very good position.”
She joins Nicola Carey, Maisie Gibson, Heather Graham, Ruth Johnston, Lizelle Lee, Emma Mannix-Gives, Hayley Silver-Holmes, Amy Smith, Naomi Stellenberg, Molly Strano, Rachel Treinman and Alice Villani, as the current eighth player. Contracted with Hobart Hurricanes. WBBL season.
