DUBAI: Rory McIlroy prevailed in a nail-biting finish over Patrick Reid, the man he “doesn’t like to be recognised” after an altercation between the two, Monday at the rain-delayed $9 million Dubai Desert Classic.
It was the first time McIlroy won his first start of his freshman season and his 15th DP World Tour win in 231 starts.
It was also his third Dubai Desert Classic win in 13 appearances.
Spaniard Jon Rahm will remain world number one on the PGA Tour on Saturday after failing to win the Farmers Insurance Open.
