Health officials say with two more Manitobans COVID-19 have died, while the number of new hospitalizations linked to the virus has declined over the past week.

How many people are currently in hospital and ICU as a result of COVID-19 is unclear, as the province no longer reports those numbers.

Officials say the number of new cases has also declined, with 171 lab-confirmed infections identified last week, down from 229 last week.

With an average of 276 tests completed in a day, the positivity rate of laboratory tests fell to 13.9 percent from 14.8 percent last week.

The number of provincial cases and test positivity rates do not necessarily give an accurate picture of active infection rates, however, because the government has significantly reduced testing and the data does not include the results of tests done at home.

While two deaths were reported in the latest update, Manitoba’s COVID-19 death toll since March 2020 rose by three from the previous week to 2,056.

The province has told Global News that the number of deaths could fluctuate from week to week as previous cases are confirmed or removed from the list.

Officials said no new outbreaks occurred in long-term care homes between July 10 and July 16, but a new outbreak was reported at Grace Hospital in Winnipeg.
