Man sentenced to 20 years for raping 6-year-old girl

A man has been sentenced to 20 years in jail for raping a six-year-old girl in Rajasthan’s Ajmer city in July last year.

Additional Sessions Judge Rajesh Chandra Gupta, heading a special POCSO court in Ajmer, also imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh on the convict Monu alias Manish Kumawat, police said in a statement.

Ajmer Inspector General of Police S Sengthir said that the case was registered on 30 July 2020 when Mohit was accused of taking a girl playing in the house to the terrace and raping her.

On the complaint of the girl’s parents, the accused has been arrested after registering a case under relevant sections of IPC and POCSO Act.

He told that after getting the victim’s DNA test done from the FSL laboratory, a charge sheet was filed against the accused in the court on 28 October 2020.

He said that after hearing all the witnesses and examining the evidence, the court convicted Monu and sentenced him to 20 years rigorous imprisonment.

According to the statement, in a total of 14 cases selected so far under the ‘Awaaz Do Abhiyan’ of the police in Ajmer range, the court has sentenced the accused, out of which two have been sentenced to death and others to life imprisonment. , -PTI
