One person dies in surf after hitting a sand bank while bodyboarding Ghana Beach.

The man, aged 60, was pulled from the surf in Coolangatta on Wednesday around 9 a.m. when onlookers noticed he appeared unconscious.

Lifeguards and paramedics worked to revive the man on the sand but could not be saved.

Coolangatta Beach (pictured) is one of the most popular on the Gold Coast and was opened on Wednesday amid patrolled areas

Pre-Tropical Cyclone Seth has been causing wild surf off the Queensland coast in recent days, with Surf Lifesaving Queensland closing several beaches.

Coolangatta beach was one of the few opened on Wednesday among the flagged patrol areas on the Gold Coast.
