Man charged with assaulting Okaloosa County deputy with pepper spray

Okaloosa County, Fla. (VALA) — A man detained by three deputies from the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office this morning sprayed pepper spray on their faces and pounced on one of them, and they were taken into custody, according to the agency.

Officials said OCSO representatives were responding to a complaint regarding 32-year-old Sean Perkins, who had set up a makeshift camp on military property near Martin Luther King Boulevard near Fort Walton Beach. The OCSO said he was detained at around 6.30 am on Wednesday for trespassing, misusing 911 and violating pedestrians.

Deputies said Perkins tried to run into traffic and then used pepper spray on him as they were working to control him. Deputies were eventually able to handcuff Perkins.

EMS arrived to help sterilize the affected deputies.

Perkins is charged with three counts of battery on a law enforcement officer,

Opposing arrest with violence and resisting arrest without violence
