A 41-year-old man has been charged after “extensive damage” was done to a hotel whitbythe police say

Durham Regional Police said that around 1:30 a.m. on Saturday, officers were notified of a disturbance at a motel on Consumer Drive and Garden Street.

Police said the officers arrived “to cause damage to suspicious property and create disturbance.”

The offices said the suspect also reportedly pulled off a fire alarm and deployed “several fire extinguishers at the motel.”

According to the police, all the customers had to vacate the premises.

Officials said property damage was estimated at $100,000.

Paul Trenwith, 41, of Pontypool has been charged with mischief worth more than $5,000, creating a false fire alarm, causing a disturbance and illegally possessing crack cocaine, police said.

Trenwith was put up for hearing on bail.
