Boston man arrested for attempted kidnapping outside Massachusetts elementary school


A Boston man was facing charges of assault and battery and police said there was an attempted kidnapping after several students at a Massachusetts elementary school were approached during recess. Boston Police said the incident happened last Wednesday afternoon at David A. Ellis Elementary School on Walnut Street in the city’s Roxbury neighborhood. Police said Charles Mariro, 58, of Dorchester was taken into custody on Harold Street in Dorchester on Thursday, a week after the incident. School staff members told police that while the three students were on leave, they were approached by an unidentified man who tried to grab one of the children and drag them by the hand. According to the police, while apprehending the child, the man told the child that he wanted them to play basketball with him. Police said Mariro could be produced in Roxbury District Court.

According to the police, while holding the child, the man told the child that he wanted the children to play basketball with him.

Police said Mariro expected to appear in Roxbury District Court.
