A two-and-a-half-year-old girl was murdered by her neighbour, who allegedly buried her alive in a pit, in Ludhiana’s Salem Tabri area on Sunday.

Ludhiana Police arrested the woman who had allegedly abducted the girl from Shimlapuri area and later buried her alive by digging a pit in a field in Salem Tabari. The girl was rescued and taken to Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH), where doctors declared her brought dead.

Police said the accused woman, identified as Neelam (35) of Shimlapuri, had abducted Dilroj Kaur (2), daughter of Harpreet Singh, the daughter of her neighbor Harpreet Singh, due to old enmity and buried her alive by digging a pit in the field. Was.

After the incident, Neelam returned home and behaved as if nothing was wrong, while the family began a search for their missing daughter.

The incident was reported to the police and they scanned the CCTVs installed in the surrounding areas. In one of the footage, he found Neelam driving with Dilroj on his scooter. With the evidence, Neelam breaks down during interrogation and confesses her crime.

Police arrested the accused and an FIR was registered under IPC section 364 (kidnapping with intent to murder) at Shimlapuri police station.

Giving details of the incident, Ludhiana city joint commissioner of police (JCP) J Elanchezhian said that he received a call from Harpreet Singh at around 3.15 pm that his daughter Dilroj Kaur was missing.

Elanchezhiyan said that the police first searched the houses of the neighbours, including Neelam’s house, during which she not only denied having any knowledge about Dilroj, but also behaved very normal. When the police checked the CCTV installed in the area, they saw Neelam taking the girl on her scooty.

“Police took the woman into custody and questioned her at length. During interrogation, he confessed to his crime and said that he had buried the girl in a pit in a field in Salem Tabari. A police team immediately reached the spot and dug out the girl and took her to DMCH, where doctors declared her brought dead.

Neelam is divorced and living with her two sons. “A few days back, Neelam had an argument with Harpreet Singh and his wife over a petty issue. Since then, hatred had developed in his mind towards him and the murder was the result of that,” said the officer.
