London, Ontario. Annual day of mourning observed in memory of those lost and injured at work – London | globalnews.ca

The London and District Labor Council (LDLC) is holding its annual Day of Mourning event on Sunday.

Each year on April 28, the day is dedicated to workers across Canada who died, were seriously injured, or became ill on the job.

This year, LDLC says Canada’s unions are marking the day by calling on decision-makers to take immediate action to make work safer.

“Too many workers are still getting injured, sick or dying as a result of their jobs,” said Patty Dalton, president of LDLC. “There were 269 worker deaths in Ontario in 2023. These deaths and thousands of injuries and illnesses each year are unconscionable.”

Dalton added, “Governments must commit and provide resources to prevention and enforcement of health and safety regulations.”

The Day of Mourning event is taking place at the OPSEU Membership Center in London on Sunday morning.
